Lies are dangerous things. They can be likened to rolling a snowball down a hill. As time passes, they become bigger, and although we may initially feel that we can control them, eventually they spin out of control, (thus the term "snowballing"), and end up crashing at bottom of the hill. Not only can we seriously damage relationships, we hurt ourselves.
But what about the lies we tell ourselves? What about the little prevarications we illude ourselves with? When we repeat that everything will be okay (because it has to be), when we say that we're okay the way we are, when we deny change because we apparently don't need it...the lies we tell ourselves are endless, and perhaps are more damaging than any of the lies we may tell others.
I love this song by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, called "Open Invitation".
On and on, I've been waiting on the open invitation
Your silence show me no relation
In the rising cold
Don't you feel alone
I'll be standing with your sorrow
All you left me's gone away tomorrow
And we may never be here again
And we may never be here again
Pull me up
On either side
Don't leave me standing alone in the light
Pull me up
On either side
Don't leave me standing alone in the light
